Note: You can run PC-DCE cell servers on any supported Windows system except Windows 98. However, to maintain the highest level of protection from unauthorized access to the cell servers, avoid configuring security, cell directory, audit, and password strength servers; and the global directory agents on Terminal Server systems.
To configure a full cell:
1. In the PC-DCE Configuration Panel, select the DCE Cell tab.
2. Specify a Cell Name.
In the Cell Name field, enter the name of the DCE cell that you intend to create (for information about naming conventions, see Naming Cells).
3. Set up the cell_admin account.
In the Principal field, enter the cell administrator principal name (cell_admin). In the Password field, enter a password for the new cell administrator principal.
4. Specify Distributed Time Service Options.
If you do not plan to use DTS, de-select the Distributed Time Service checkbox and go to the next step.
If you intend to use DTS to synchronize the cell's time, select a radio button to specify the type of DTS services:
· Time Service Client (default)
· Local Time Server
· Global Time Server
In the LAN Profile Name field, specify the LAN profile in which you want the DTS daemon on your system to look for the network locations of DTS servers. The default LAN profile entry is /.:/lan-profile.
5. Click OK.
The Configuration Status window appears and displays a series of status messages. When the configuration is complete, the program displays the Configuration Successful! message.
If you encounter an error, refer to Troubleshooting Configuration Problems.
