PC-DCE/PC-DFS for Windows
Version 5.1.4

Release Applicability

This version can be installed over any previous version of PC-DCE.

New Features in This Release

No new features were added in this release.

Problems Fixed in This Release

The following problem was fixed in PC-DCE 5.1.4 (and also in 5.0.8 and 4.0.16):

  • Intercell Trust: The dcecp command registry connect, which is used to establish a trust relationship between two cells, reported that the security server of the foreign cell was not available. This was due to the Global Directory Agent Daemon (GDAD) failing to find the DNS servers on the network. The GDAD now uses a more robust procedure to acquire the IP address of DNS servers and connect to them.

The following problem occurred in and was fixed in PC-DCE 5.1.4 only:

  • Installation: The installer reported "Error: Unable to open license file (Runtime)" if there was no valid license for PC-DFS, regardless of whether PC-DFS was selected for installation. This problem has been fixed.

Applying PC-DCE 5.1.4

To upgrade to PC-DCE 5.1.4:

  1. Download PC-DCE 5.1.5. (See "Obtaining PC-DCE 5.1.4" above for download links.)

  2. Unzip the files and then run Setup. You are given the choice to Modify, Repair, or Remove kits. Choose Repair. Your present installation will be updated to the new version.

  3. Reboot the machine. The update does not take effect until the machine has been rebooted.

Note: If you are updating a host running the Security or CDS Server as a replica, it may take a minute or two for the daemons to resynchronize themselves with the master. Initially, the PC-DCE Service Panel may say the daemons are unavailable. After about one minute (or possibly longer for larger cells), click Refresh and the display will show that the servers are running normally.
