The DCE Distributed Time Service (DTS) provides precise, fault-tolerant synchronization of system clocks. DTS closely matches synchronized time to a standard time, called coordinated universal time (UTC). DTS also uses RPC for communication, Directory Service for time-server location, and security. DTS can acquire reliable time from the Internet Network Time Protocol (NTP).
