Many distributed applications need a single time reference to schedule activities and determine event sequencing and duration across networks of computers in the distributed environment.
Applications may require correct and synchronized time for event scheduling, sequencing, measurement, and reporting. Distributed applications may not operate correctly otherwise. In DCE, the Security service will not work if clocks differ by more than five minutes.
