As distributed computing encourages the free flow of information and sharing of network services and resources, computer networks are susceptible to security breaches. Such breaches include:
· Masquerade - A client pretends to be someone it is not.
· Data modification - An attacker modifies data flowing between client and server (also called message stream modification).
· Data interception - An attacker reads data flowing between the client and server.
DCE Security provides excellent support for distributed computing for commercial security-sensitive use, such as in financial institutions. It is important that enterprisewide services have security built into their functionality. Application developers might have to trade off security for performance.
