DCE services are provided by three types of servers: CDS, time, and security.
When you configure your DCE cell, you install the CDS, time, and security server software on one or more computers in your computer network.
Deployment of DCE servers varies according to network size. For a small network, you might run one copy of each server on one machine. For a large network, you might run multiple copies of CDS, time, and security servers, each copy on its own computer.
The State of Server dialogs check the status of the DCE servers for a particular DCE cell.
Since CDS, time, and security servers register themselves in CDS so other DCE servers and applications can find them, the State of Server dialogs rely on the proper operation of at least one CDS server.
