Namespace Users

A cell's namespace includes a variety of objects, all of which have names that are referenced by the following kinds of users:

· Desktop users - These users are concerned with solving business problems using cell resources, having those resources available whenever they need them, and choosing cell resources using simple and meaningful names.

· Cell administrators - These users are concerned with maintaining the quality and availability of services that the cell provides, controlling access to those services, and ensuring namespace integrity on an ongoing basis. Cell administrators require privileged access to the cell namespace so they can grow, shrink, or move the cell, add or delete DCE accounts, add or move hosts, and so on. They will also collaborate with application developers to install and name cell objects appropriately and make the objects available to the cell's desktop users.

· Application developers - These users are primarily concerned with creating DCE-compliant applications for cell desktop users. Application developers require cell objects with names that are typically visible only during detailed design and coding, such as math servers, privileged databases, special printers, and so on. They need to search the cell namespaces during application development and collaborate with cell administrators to name cell objects appropriately and make them available to the cell's desktop users.
