Setting Up Integrated Login

You can use the PC-DCE Integrated Login feature to ensure that whenever you change your Windows password, your DCE password will automatically be changed as well. For more information on Integrated Login, refer to the Overview Guide.

1. Confirm that you have a DCE account with the same name as your Windows account.

Note: Because both PC-DCE and Windows are case sensitive, the DCE account name and password must match the Windows login exactly for Integrated Login to work properly.

2. Change your current DCE password to the same password that you use for your account on Windows. You can do this either from NetCrusader Commander, from dcecp, or if you are running Windows 98, from the Passwords applet in the Control Panel.

3. Open the PC-DCE Configuration dialog and select the Options tab. Ensure that the Enable Automatic Login to DCE checkbox is selected.

The Advanced Login Features allow you to apply a prefix to a user's DCE login name. This can be helpful when grouping users in the DCE cell.

To use the Advanced Login Features, select the Add Prefix to User Name checkbox. Then, select either:

·      Windows domain name — Retrieves the user's domain name from the Windows registry and prefixes the DCE user name with it.

·      DNS domain name — Retrieves the user's DNS domain name from the Windows registry and prefixes the DCE user name with it.

·      User defined string — Prefixes the DCE user name with a prefix that you define. Enter the prefix you want to use in the text box, which becomes active when you select this option. Do not include slashes, because PC-DCE adds the required slashes automatically.

4. If you haven't already completed the client configuration, return to the DCE Client tab and click OK.

If you enabled the Advanced Login Features, a dialog box appears that shows the prefix that will be applied to the user name. Click OK to accept the prefix or Cancel to cancel it.

The next time you start your PC, you will not only log into Windows but also log into your DCE cell simultaneously. From this point on, every time you change your Windows password, your DCE password will also be updated automatically. The two passwords will remain identical.

In the Case of Password Mismatch

If PC-DCE is configured to use Integrated Login and there is a password mismatch between the Windows account and the DCE registry, Integrated Login will not log Windows users into DCE. However, when the DCE login fails, PC-DCE displays a dialog box allowing you to synchronize passwords. Enter a valid DCE password for the currently logged in Windows user, select the Synchronize Windows and DCE Passwords checkbox and click OK. PC-DCE automatically changes the DCE password to match the Windows password.

For Novell Users

If you are running a Novell network and are experiencing problems with Integrated Login, you can either change DCE user names and passwords to all upper case or change the order of the logins so dce login is performed first (see Technical Note located at http://support.entegrity.com/private/technotes/dce32/113gr.htm.)
