Configuring a Client

To configure a DCE Client from the PC-DCE Configuration Panel:

1. Select the DCE Client tab.

2. Specify a CDS Server Host Name.

In the CDS Server Host Name field, enter the host name of a CDS server running in the DCE cell you intend to join. This server becomes the client's preferred server, so if possible, choose a server that is on this client's LAN.

3. Select Full or Lightweight Client (Full = Configure Client Daemons)

By default, the PC-DCE Configuration program configures your system as a lightweight DCE client, which does not include configuration of the dced, dtsd or cdsadv client daemons. If you do not understand the difference between full and lightweight clients, refer to the Overview Guide.

·      For Lightweight Client, leave the Configure Client Daemons checkbox unselected.

Note: If you choose not to configure the client daemons but still want to configure an endpoint mapping service, refer to Configuring Additional Client Options after completing this section.

·      For Full Client, select the Configure Client Daemons checkbox. Enter the cell administrator principal name (typically cell_admin) and password.

4. Click OK.

The Configuration Status window appears and displays a series of status messages. When the configuration is complete, the program displays the Configuration Successful! message.
