It is strongly recommended that all DCE cells register their cell names in advance of installing DCE with one of the global directory services, such as DNS/BIND or GDS/X.500, to allow for intercell communication. Current DCE technology does not allow you to delete your cell name after you have created it without significant difficulties. Therefore, if you name your cell without registering it with a global directory service and later decide you want to communicate with another cell, you may find that your current cell name is already registered to another cell.
