Preparing for Replication

The following prerequisites must be met before you can replicate a read/write fileset:

· Each File Server machine that is to house a replica of the fileset must have a server entry in the FLDB. (See Creating a Server Entry for a File Server Machine for information on creating server entries.)

· A Replication Server (repserver process) and a Fileset Server (ftserver process) must be running on each File Server machine that is to house a replica of the fileset. Use the bos status command to verify that the repserver and ftserver processes are running on the machine at each replication site. (You can also use the fts statrepserver command, which is described in Displaying Replication Status, to verify the status of the Replication Server on a machine.)

· You must use the fts setrepinfo command to indicate the type of replication and to set the replication parameters to be used with the fileset that is to be replicated. This information is recorded in the FLDB entry for the fileset.

· You must use the fts addsite command to add the replication sites to the FLDB entry for the fileset. If necessary, enter the fts aggrinfo command to check the available space on a File Server machine's aggregates before defining a replication site on the machine, and use the fts lsft command to check the size of the read/write fileset. (See Managing Filesets for a description of the fts aggrinfo and fts lsft commands.) Remember, a read-only replica must also be stored on the same File Server machine as the read/write fileset with Release Replication.

The following topics describe how to set the replication type and parameters and how to add replication sites.
